Six episodes, a Newfoundland coastline, and something lurking in the water — this one has us hooked
Josh Hartnett's untitled Netflix limited series — known in production as the Untitled Newfoundland Project — is one of the most intriguing things in his current lineup. Shot on location on the island of Newfoundland on Canada's east coast, the six-episode series casts Hartnett as a fisherman protecting his community from a mysterious and deadly threat emerging from the sea. He also serves as executive producer.
The supporting cast is genuinely exciting. Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton co-star alongside Hartnett, and additional cast members include Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, and Kaleb Horn. The show is written by Karen Walton and others, with Jesse McKeown serving as showrunner. That is a strong creative team by any measure.
The series has been described as an eerie supernatural thriller with creature-feature elements set against the atmospheric isolation of the Newfoundland coast. Think Jaws crossed with something more folkloric and character-driven. Hartnett's fisherman character is described as the protector of his community — exactly the combination of physical presence and emotional depth he has been delivering consistently since his comeback.
Netflix limited series with prestige casting, atmospheric location photography, a practical creature concept, and Josh Hartnett as both star and producer? This checks every box. Filming wrapped in Newfoundland and post-production is underway. No title or release date has been officially confirmed yet, but 2026 or early 2027 seems realistic. We will keep you updated as details emerge.
