Celebrated director
Roland Joffé, best known in Kolkata for having directed "
City of Joy", is in India. And the reason is that he is casting for his next film titled
SINGULARITY, written by Ajey Jhankar.
The film is an epic romance centred around four characters — a British officer in colonial India, the Indian woman he falls in love with, an American marine biologist and his lover, who is a researcher trapped in a wrecked British merchant ship.
A major portion of the film will be shot in India since the story revolves around Marathas in 1780s India. " SINGULARITY is set in two centuries. The film is about James, a British officer in 1780s India, who falls in love with a young Indian woman," informs a source. Incidentally, the same film was launched some three years back and was then called The Invaders. It was then supposed to star Brendan Fraser, Vivek Oberoi and Ash. However, the script has now been completely rewritten for SINGULARITY and Joffé is recasting for the film.
Sources say that Joffé, who has recently been in the news for having directed
There Be Dragons, came down to Mumbai in the first week of August. Joffé has been meeting actors to decide on his final cast.
SINGULARITY will be shot in UK and in India. If all goes well, the director will be leaving India on August 14.
