SINGULARITY: MORNING COFFEE WITH JOSH HARTNETT...

Guess what and who I saw today? Seriously.....

I was walking to my place of work this morning past the city Botanical Gardens and saw something that looked quite interesting, so I decided to have a bit of a nosy. I worked out that it was some kind of a film set and just thought that it would be some student group working on an assignment.... I do work at a University.
As I got closer I thought to myself "rather big budget student assignment" (!) and then realised that I was walking straight through a real movie shoot - oops!

The (younger) girls at work soon put me right and told me that Josh Hartnett was filming a movie called 'Singularity' at Government House. A bit of excitement for a work morning?

So when it came to caffeine hit time, I had to walk past again to get to the coffee shop - and there he was, in full costume. So...OK I didn't actually have morning coffee with Josh Hartnett... but I did walk past him holding my take away skinny flat white!

I was way too chicken busy to go star hunting again, so the girls took my camera (that now permanently comes with me wherever I go) and took a few shots of the action.

FILM AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION IN QUEENSLAND ENDS YEAR ON A HIGH

Premier and Minister for the Arts Anna Bligh today announced November as a landmark month for the Queensland film industry with four major productions commencing filming.

“It is exciting to end the year with so many major productions shooting all at once, and it is a testament to Queensland’s ability to attract first rate productions,” Ms Bligh said.

Three new television series commenced filming this week with Slide (produced by Nathan Mayfield and Tracey Robertson of Brisbane’s own Hoodlum Entertainment), Lightening Point (from prolific children’s producer Jonathon M Shiff) and international production Terra Nova (Twentieth Century Fox Television’s eagerly anticipated sci-fi/adventure series).

“Terra Nova, set in a future when the world is dying from overdevelopment and overcrowding, is shooting 13 one-hour episodes using locations around South East Queensland including Warner Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast,” Ms Bligh said.

“Slide, set right here in Brisbane, is a unique project with the capacity to revolutionise how TV connects with its audience using online drama, immersive environments and interactive gameplay. It is a funny, cheeky multi-platform drama for young adults,” Ms Bligh said.

“Lightening Point is a sci-fi adventure series set in the sleepy surf town of Horseshoe Bay where an unlikely trio of aliens and surfers learn about surfing, friendship and love.”

Next week, cameras will also roll for the feature film co-production between Australia and the United Kingdom Singularity, produced by Corsan and Queensland-based Limelight International Media Entertainment Pty Ltd.

Singularity, a lush love story that spans centuries, is written and directed by Oscar-winner Roland Joffe and features stunning production design from Luciana Arrighi, also an Oscar winner. It stars the talented actors Josh Hartnett and Bollywood beauty Bipasha Basu.

Already in production since October is the first wholly Australian-produced 3D feature film Bait, produced by Chris Brown and Todd Fellman. Following a tsunami, a sleepy coastal village is terrorised by unwanted visitors from the depths including an amazing animatronic shark that will knock Jaws out of the water.

The Premier said the production, the third 3D production to shoot in Queensland in the last year, demonstrates Queensland emergence as an industry leader in 3D shooting production and technology.

“My Government provides considerable incentives through Screen Queensland to secure and develop productions for Queensland, and this generates enormous economic and employment activity for the state. In the last financial year this generated $257 million in economic flow on effects and created over 5200 jobs,” Ms Bligh said.
