WHAT HAPPENED TO ERNEST LAWRENCE AFTER OPPENHEIMER?

By Paula Kuwaoka  https://topmovies.com.br/author/paulakuwaokagmail-com/

Nuclear physicist Ernest Lawrence, played by Josh Hartnett in Christopher Nolan Oppenheimer's film, continued his ambitious scientific and defense activities after the events that took place in the film.

Once a close friend and associate of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in the infamous Manhattan Project, Lawrence became a central figure in advancing institutionalized and government-funded support for scientific programs that came to be called Big Science.

Lawrence and Oppenheimer were so close throughout their lives that he named one of his sons, Robert, after the father of the atomic bomb.

Lawrence, as a close friend and collaborator of J. Robert Oppenheimer, played a significant role in establishing a Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty with the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Despite recurring illnesses, Lawrence accompanied President Eisenhower to Geneva, but fell seriously ill during the trip. He later died in 1958, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of physics.
